Overview of Services
The Connections In Counselling team provides online (virtual) and in-person therapy to youth/adolescents (14+) and adults. We do not use a "one size fits all" approach. Instead, we offer a wide range of therapeutic modalities which are customized to meet the unique needs of our clients.

Evidence-Based Counselling
Some of the evidence-based counselling methods we use at Connections In Counselling include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Approaches (MBT).
CBT
CBT looks at the connections between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, which can lead to negative thought patterns that shape how we see ourselves and the world around us. CBT helps people to identify, challenge and change these unhelpful thought patterns to improve our overall well being and quality of life.
DBT
DBT encourages us to balance acceptance and change. DBT teaches different skills focused on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. These core skills help us to better manage intense emotions and cope with life in healthier ways.
ACT
ACT helps us to acknowledge that negative and/or unhelpful thoughts and emotions are a normal part of life. ACT encourages us to practice mindful acceptance and make a commitment to take value-guided action towards our goals in order to live a richer and more meaningful life.
MBT
The primary goal of mindfulness is to increase our awareness of the present moment, with openness and from a place of compassion. Mindfulness helps us to focus on what is happening "right now" rather than dwelling on negative aspects of the past or worrying about the future. It encourages us to respond more effectively to painful life experiences and helps us to reduce our suffering.
Some additional considerations:
- Therapy is a collaborative process between you and your therapist. We ask that you be an active participant.
- Depending on your needs, sessions can vary in both frequency and length based on your unique needs.
- Therapy will continue only as long as it is beneficial to you. We will evaluate this on an ongoing basis.
